The development of modern industrial robots tends to be lightweight, because the bearings must be installed in a limited space, which requires bearings to be small in size and light in weight, that is, lightweight. But at the same time, the robot's property such as high loading capacity, high rotation accuracy, high running stability, high positioning speed, high repositioning accuracy, long service life, and high reliability need to be secured by the matched robot bearings, so the bearings must have have good performance on loading capacity, precision, stiffness, low friction torque, long lifetime, and reliability as well.


Thin Section Ball Bearings are designed for applications where there are space limitations, concerns with weight, and the loading and torque requirements still similar with a ball bearing.  They usually have an extremely small, square cross-section. Within each series, even the bearing's diameter changes, the cross-section remains constant, so thin section ball bearings also called constant section bearings.


There are basically three types of thin-section ball bearing: deep groove radial contact, four point contact, and angular contact. They are often used on industrial robot parts such as the waist, elbows and wrists, where require small cross-section bearing . In the case of the same inner diameter, the thin section ball bearing has more rolling elements than the standard rolling bearing, thus improving the internal force distribution of the bearing, reducing the elastic deformation of the contact part of steel ball and raceway , also improving the bearing's loading capacity.
